Chariots of Fire

The following is my favorite story in the Old Testament:

2 Kings 6:11-17

And the mind of the king of Syria was greatly troubled because of this thing, and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?" 12And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." 13And he said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him." It was told him, "Behold, he is in Dothan." 14So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
15When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" 16He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see." So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Elisha was about to be attacked and captive, but through faith, he knew that the Lord would protect him.  And he was right.  I would love to be able to open my eyes and see horses and chariots of fire surrounding me when I am afraid and being attacked.  Through faith, I know that the Lord has already won the fight with this world and that nothing can touch me that He does not allow.

We talked about the following verses in Wednesday night Bible class last night.  Its so easy to forget whose children we are, and who we are actually fighting against, but we can't allow ourselves to be beaten up by the enemy because we are the Children of God and He protects us and has given us everything we need for protection.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousnessAnd your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of GodPraying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
